This is my design for the front cover of my music magazine, and in order to plan out how I wanted it to look I had to do some market research and look into other magazines to see what is popular amongst a large audience. So, from this research I have decided to take my inspiration from 'VIBE' magazine, and I have done this by looking carefully into what the magazine contains and how the information that is on the front cover gets across to the audience. Firstly, I am going to talk about the masthead. The masthead will be located in the centre at the top of the page, however, it will not be exactly at the top as I have left room there for another part to my front cover. The masthead will be bold and will hopefully stand out to the audience. Next, I have the main image, which again based on my research and inspiration, I have decided that I will locate my image directly in the middle of the page, the image will be relatively large, so that it catches the readers attention as soon as they see the magazine, which is very important when trying to sell a product. Furthermore, the reason I have left the space above my masthead is so that I can fit a headline in. This I am hoping will make the front cover look even more professional because it will add an effect to the masthead without making it look overcrowded in the top half of the page, and also I have decided to do this, based on some questionnaire results that I obtained, as people said that the first thing they noticed was the masthead, so therefore I thought by adding a heading just above the masthead that it might attract more people as it would give them something extra to look at, and this means that as well as noticing the masthead, they will also notice the heading just above it, which should engage the reader. Moreover, I have decided to locate my barcode in the bottom left hand side of the page, because this means that it won't be the first thing that the buyer will notice, however it is not completely unavoidable, meaning once the audience have had a quick scan of the magazine, they will then notice the price of it and decide if they are going to buy it. I took inspiration for this from 'VIBE' magazine, because I feel as though it is a good selling curve and will make the magazine more appealing, because when you buy a magazine you don't really want to come across the price first. Finally, I have decided to locate my headings and stories on the sides of the front cover, so on the left hand side there will be a story about an artist which will be in quite a loud font, so that it catches the audiences eye immediately, and directly below that I have decided to put another heading, however, I have made all of my heading quite large so that the page doesn't look overcrowded with small fonts, because this would put people off. On the right hand side of the page there will be, hopefully, 3 headlines, perhaps 4, depending on the space that I have on the page, because I don't want to have to minimize the fonts just to add another headline, therefore having 3 headlines might be the best idea, plus this means that the oage will also look less crowded.
