The Brief:
For my AS Media Coursework I will be creating the front cover, contents page and double page spread of a new music magazine. Throughout the process of the coursework, there will be four key elements which cover the entirety of the assignment.
> Preliminary Exercise
> Research and Planning
>Production Exercise
>Evaluation
Preliminary Exercise:
A desktop publishing and image manipulation programme must be used to create the front over of a new school music magazine, which must feature a medium close up photograph of a student as well as some appropriately laid out text and a masthead. We must produce a mock-up of the layout of the contents page using a DTP to demonstrate your knowledge of the programme.
This part of the coursework is where we get to test out different software and play around with it and gain more knowledge, which we can then use in a our production exercise.
Research and Planning:
The research and planning will include:
> Research into similar products, analysis of front covers, contents pages and double page spreads from a selection of different music magazines.
> Research into a potential target audience, analysis of existing magazines, music, TV, products aimed at this target audience, and a specifically designed questionnaire for your audience.
> A moodboard for your construction.
>Planning for the layout of pages - annotated drafts.
> Planning photographs - models, location, background, clothing, lighting, props, time, positioning, etc.
>Evaluation of preliminary images taken.
> Edited photographs, with commentary.
> Planning of font style, size and colour - influenced by market research.
Production Exercise:
I must produce the front cover, a contents page and a double page spread of a new music magazine. All the images and text must be original and produced by me, with a minimum of four images used.
The things that we will be assessed on is creativity of the use of the following technical skills:
>Producing material appropriate for the target audience and task.
> Showing understanding of the conventions of layout and page design.
>Showing awareness of the need for variety in fonts and page design.
> Accurately using language and register.
> Using ICT appropriately for the task set.
Appropriately integrating text and illustration.
> Shooting a variety of material appropriate to the context for presentation including cropping and resizing.
Evaluation:
The evaluation will take place in the form of the blog and is an evaluation and reflection upon the creative process and the experience of it. It is a digital and creative evaluation. This means it should include images, videos, audios, and online links, as it will be submitted digitally.
